Everyday we are inundated with germs. Today is no different than yesterday or last month or last year. You can help to boost your immune system today and every day through these 5 simple steps:
1) Use food as medicine.
The image shares the foods that help support your immune system. Work to incorporate at least one of these into every meal. Remember water is just as important as the food we eat. You should be drinking at least half your body weigh in ounces to maintain proper hydration. Did you know there are foods that weaken our immune system? Yep! Be mindful that sugar, refined foods, additives and preservatives, processed foods and excessive alcohol are key contributors. Consider what you are consuming daily and work to weed these out as a part of your new health routine.
2) Get a good nights sleep.
Sleep is extremely important for your body. Its the time where it works to restore and rebuild. Find ways to get at least 6 hours of sleep a night. And if you have children, they should be getting 10-12 hours a night.
3) Daily active movement.
The goal should be 20 minutes at least twice a day. Walking is so very good for you. It doesn’t need to be agressive, the key is to get your body moving. You can incorporate more intense workouts but don’t neglect the simple active moments.
4) Get outside.
Did you know the air is filled with beneficial microbes that help to boost your immune system. Get outside and take deep breaths. Combine this with a 20 minute walk and kill two birds with one stone!
5) Gratitude
Negativity can be very detrimental to our overall well being. Worry, panic, fear, anxiety, stress all contribute to a breakdown in our cells which then leads us to a compromised immune system. Find ways to combat the surmounting negativity by choosing to find things you are or can be grateful for. An attitude of gratitude can be profound.
Our bodies have the amazing ability to fight off sickness when we support it properly. It’s something I am very passionate about. If you would like to know more, I’d love to chat with you. You an reach me via email at purposefuleats@gmail.com.
